Summary:
As our Mental Health Assistant, you will successfully identify possible behavioral and mental health concerns of children. Your strong rapport and relationship building skills will serve you well in this role as you nurture genuine, supportive, and productive relationships with children and their families. Each day will look different from the next as you provide mental health services to children and families in our Head Start program including assessment, diagnosis, referral, and treatment services. Our organization, Ogden Weber Community Action Partnership (OWCAP), is searching for a proactive Mental Health Assistant who is passionate about making a meaningful impact on the lives of our community by ensuring appropriate mental health services are provided to children and their families.
 
What you’ll need to be our Mental Health Assistant: 

  • Action-oriented and collaborative approach to decision-making
  • Strong rapport and relationship building skills
  • Confident in handling a variety of challenges and priorities
  • Bachelor’s degree degree in Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Counseling or School Counseling
  • One year’s experience working with young children

What you’ll do as the Mental Health Assistant: 
  • Develop & support implementation of positive guidance plans.
  • Provide professional and accurate documentation.
  • Support the achievement of in-kind goals as established in the Head Start Standards and the OWCAP system procedures.
Wellness Promotion and Consultation:
  • Support the Mental Health Specialist with consultation services such as scheduling, assessment and observation, referrals, case management and partnering with families and staff.
  • Provide support to teachers and teacher assistants to implement effective classroom management and positive learning environments using classroom observation and consultation.
  • Provide support to staff and families to identify and implement strategies that support children’s mental health including those with mental health concerns through education, observation and access to resources.
  • Obtain and ensure parent consent prior to mental health services.
  • Support in establishing and maintaining community partnerships to mental health services.
  • Ensure timely completion of data entry for children and families for mental health case management.
