Education Manager
Reports to: Education Director
Full-Time (Exempt) position Monday through Friday with occasional nights and Saturdays
Salary: $42,000-$45,000, based on experience
What you will do
The Education Manager position at the Ogden Nature Center (ONC) is a full-time role focused on delivering environmental education programs to diverse audiences across Utah. This position is integral to the Center’s mission of uniting people with nature and fostering environmental stewardship. This is a supervisory role where you will assist the Education Director in managing staff on specific tasks and projects. You will be a leader and an example in Environmental Education best practices.
The Ogden Nature Center is in the heart of Ogden, Utah. ONC is an award-winning 152-acre nature preserve and education center. The Ogden Nature Center offers a wide variety of classes & workshops for all ages, summer camps, field trips, plus hiking trails, live anima exhibits, self-guided experiences, great community events, and more.
Specific Responsibilities Include:

Manage and guide the education staff assigned to preschool and homeschool programs. Assist in administering, planning, and teaching these programs.

Assist the Education Director in overseeing the training and teaching of on and off-site programming and ensuring all curriculum is up to date and adheres to current state STEM standards.

Assist with the creation and implementation of on-site community programming.

Assist the Education Director in coordinating and scheduling summer camps and camp creation.

Assist the Education Director in coordinating and scheduling non iSEE related outreach programs and events (except Eagle Courts of Honor)

Teach on-site field trips, homeschool, preschool, summer camp, and community programs on a regular basis.

Provide environmental education programming (through iSEE) to first grade students throughout the state of Utah on an as needed basis.

Handle and transport animals for educational presentations.

Assist in maintaining accurate records of education programs, materials, travel expenses and mileage reports.

Participate in events and fundraisers.

Assist with PR opportunities including booths at community events and the farmer’s market.

Other tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
-
Must have an undergraduate degree or higher in environmental education, wildlife biology, education, or related field.

Must be able to work occasional evenings and Saturdays.

Must be willing and able to travel for programs for up to a week at a time.

Must be willing and able to drive long distances in a company vehicle.

Must be a US citizen or be a lawful permanent resident.

Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.

Must be able to perform strenuous outdoor work under all weather conditions.

Must pass a background check.

Must be able to hold and move birds of prey, snakes, and other wildlife safely.

Must be able to lift 25 pounds, walk up to one mile on uneven terrain in all weather conditions, and speak to large groups.

Must be articulate, with good writing skills.

Must be computer proficient (Word, Excel, email).

Must enjoy working and being outdoors.
Preferred Qualifications:

Prior handling of small reptiles and experience in informal education is highly desirable.

Highly organized self-starter

Enjoys working with people of all ages and has excellent interpersonal skills.
