Women in Business Luncheon

Are you hungry to have an impact? Join us for lunch to hear from Dr. Doris Geide- Stevenson, an accomplished academic leader, passionate advocate for women in business, and tireless champion of local economic resilience. She demonstrates a tremendous commitment to actively mentor, support, and uplift others, particularly women, on their own leadership journeys.

Doris will explore women’s progress and ongoing challenges in higher education leadership from an economic perspective. She will highlight the historical role of women in academia since the passage of Title IX, along with notable milestones, and review data showing both significant progress and persistent inequities in degrees awarded and leadership roles, particularly within economics. Doris will also examine economic research on gender differences, leadership styles,  potential strategies to address inequities and ensure higher education remains relevant and inclusive for all.
 
Doris Geide-Stevenson is an economist with extensive experience in various academic leadership roles. She obtained the degree of Diplom-Volkswirt from the University of Würzburg, Germany in 1986. In 1995 she graduated from the State University of Buffalo, New York with a Ph.D. in economics. Doris Geide-Stevenson joined the faculty of Weber State University in 1996. She is a Professor of Economics and served nine years as the Department Chair of economics, three terms as the Faculty Senate Chair, and most currently a three-year term as the Interim Dean for the Goddard School of Business & Economics. 
 
Her research started out with a focus on international trade and migration in the context of different social policies among countries. More recently her work has moved to the area of teaching and pedagogy. Her research has been published in journals such as the Review of International Economics, the Journal of Population Economics and the Journal of Economic Education. Her most recent work was featured in the Economist.
 
She has taught for the economics and MBA programs at Weber State University with a focus on Global Macroeconomic Condititions, International Finance, and Research Methods in Economics.
